Adams, James E, Died at Camp Morton Prison in IN during the Civil War.
Artz, Isaac, a private in Co. A 50th Regiment, PA Infantry during the Civil War. He was reported wounded and missing in action as of May 12, 1864. He died while in the hands of the Confederates.
Bacot, Samuel, taken prisoner by the British during the Revolutionary War and incarcerated in Camden, SC. He and other prisoners conspired and were able to overpower the British and escape while being taken to Charlestown.

Barnhart, Benjamin, who was captured at Cold Harbour, VA during the Civil War and became a POW at Point Lookout, MD.
Bartlett, Joseph, Captured by the Indians, adopted by the Indians, and later sold to a Frenchman.
Bass, Nathan, a sergeant in the 18th Regiment of the Connecticut Militia during the Revolutionary War. He was serving in the Coast Defense in New York Harbor when taken onboard a ship and died there of "ship fever" on 10 Sep 1776.
Bellenger, 1st Lt. Edward, was a POW at Johnson’s Island, OH, during the Civil War.
Bennett, Pvt Jacob, was captured during the Battle of Quebec and held in a Canadian prison.
Birdsall, Lt. Col. Benjamin, a Lt. Col during the Revolutionary War who was taken prisoner after the Battle of Long Island in 1776 while regaining a captured American supply ship from the British. He was sent to the Provost Jail and after several months of confinement and starvation was exchanged.
Bishop, Leonard N., Served with the 1st Vermont Cavalry during the Civil War. He was captured at Stony Creek, VA and sent to Andersonville. He was then transferred to Florence, SC where he died Dec 1, 1864.
Black, James O., a Confederate soldier who was captured near Larkinsville, AL during the Civil War. He was sent to a Military Prison near Louisville, KY, moved to Camp Chase, OH, moved to Ft. Delaware, DE, moved to City Point, VA for a prisoner exchange.
Blodget, Solomon, who was wounded at the Battle of White Plains & taken prisoner at the Battle of Bemis Heights in 1777 during the Revolutionary War.
Bloodworth, Henry Washington, a Confederate soldier serving as a private in Co D, 57th Regiment GA Infantry in the Civil War, he was captured at Vicksburg, MS, 4 Jul 1863 and paroled 6 Jul 1863.
Bowman, Isaac, a Quartermaster or horsemaster in Col Clark's expedition during the Revolutionary War. He was captured by Indians during the Illinois campaign and held prisoner for 3 years. He lived among the Chickasaw Indians until he escaped with some help from a trader and went to Cuba. Long thought dead, he surprised his family upon his return to Virginia.
Bradford, Oliver William, an Union soldier captured at the Peach Orchard during the Battle of Shiloh, April 6, 1862 during the Civil War. Held prisoner and then paroled 28 May 1862.

Brooks, Aaron W., who was captured during the Civil War and was held and died as a POW at Fort Delaware Prison in DE.
Brown, Stephen C., a Union soldier and a private in Company C, 8th Regiment, TN Cavalry during the Civil War who was captured near Russellville TN and taken to Danville, VA where he died there as a POW 16 Feb 1865. He was captured along with his brother-in-law who was a lieutenant and likely targeted by the CSA as a way of getting officers that could be exchanged for Confederate soldiers.

Budd, Dr. Abraham Van Wyck, who was twice captured and released while serving as a Surgeon in Louisiana and North Carolina units of the Confederate Army during the War of the Rebellion. He's credited with performing the first appendectomy.
Burkett, Jacob, an Union soldier during the Civil War he was captured 11 Jun 1864 at Ripley, MS and sent to Andersonville Prison. On 11 Nov 1864 he was sent to Millen Prison. He also was imprisoned at Cahaba Prison

Catlin, Ruth, Captured during Indian raid on Deerfield, MA in 1703/4 during Queen Anne's War. During the ensuing march to Canada she showed great courage which impressed her captors, and that probably saved her life.
Chenoweth, George Washington, the regiment was captured at the Battle of Richmond, KY during the Civil War. They were paroled at Richmond, KY and sent to Indianapolis, IN.
Clark, Marcus F., who was captured “near Chattahoochee, GA during the Civil War, moved to a POW camp in Louisville, KY, then transferred to POW Camp Chase near Columbus, OH, where he remained until he died.

Collyer, Ebenezer (Eben), a private in Co. G, 1st Regiment MA Heavy Artillery during the Civil War. He was captured 16 Jun 1864 at Petersburg, VA. He was sent to Andersonville Prison in GA where he died of disease 11 Sep 1864.
Connolly, George, wounded & taken prisoner outside Petersburg, VA in 1781. Kept in POW hospital in NY until after Cornwallis surrendered during the Rev War.
Conrad, John, a Confederate soldier captured during a raid at Buffington, OH in 1863 during the Civil War. First sent to Camp Morgan and then in August, 1863 transferred to Camp Douglas. He was released in 1865 in an exchange of prisoners.
Coonrod/Conrad, Andrew Madison, who was captured at Fredericksburg and sent for exchange at City Point, VA during the Civil War. He was captured again at Gettysburg and sent for exchange at Aikens Landing, VA.
Cookus, John Thomas, a Confederate prisoner of war released from Kearneysville, VA by order of the Provost Marshal for humanitarian purposes due to consumption during the Civil War.
Corse, Elizabeth (Catlin), was captured by Indians and died on a march to Canada during Queen Anne’s War.
Costner, Joseph Dickson, was captured at Gettysburg, PA. He was sent to Fort Delaware, was transferred to Chester Hospital at Chester, PA, where he died. He is buried at the Chester Cemetery.

Couch, Perry R., a Confederate soldier captured by forces commanded by William T. Sherman 18 Oct 1864 near Kingston, GA during the Civil War. Sent to first Louisville and then Camp Douglas where he was detained for the remainder of the war.
Covenhoven, Jacob, taken prisoner while trying to smash the lamps at Sandy Hook Lighthouse during the Revolutionary War to prevent the expected British fleet from being able to navigate the narrows.
Cox, Joseph Howes, who was a POW at Andersonville during the Civil War.
Cracraft, Charles, a member of George Rogers Clark's Revolutionary War campaign in 1781 against the Indians. He and six others were attempting to join General Clark's main force when they were captured by Indians about 10 miles below of the mouth of the Big Miami River. They survived and their captivity ended in Quebec in 1782.

Critser, Henry, was surrendered to the British as a POW by Gen. Joseph Hull during the War of 1812 and remained in captivity with the enemy about two weeks and was dismissed upon his parole of honor.
Curry, George Washington, who was captured at Missionary Ridge during the Civil War. He was at Rock Island, IL; Nashville, TN; Military Prison at Louisville, KY.
Cushman, Robert, On a business trip for the colony he was on the Fortune when captured by the French as they approached the English coast due to the Anglo-French Conflict. Kept for two weeks they were robbed of all they had.

Dickens, Capt. Joseph Levi Napoleon, a Confederate soldier and member of Gen. John Morgan's Raiders in 1863 when Morgan crossed the Ohio River into IN but went beyond his authorization. Morgan and some of his officers, including Capt. Joseph Levi Napoleon Dickens, were captured by Union troops and imprisoned in the Ohio State Penitentiary.

Divan/Diven, Samuel, whose unit was captured by a Confederate Calvary Brigade while performing rear guard duty of a railroad line near North Mountain, WV during the Civil War . Samuel was a POW at Andersonville.
Divine, Jr., Clyde Earl, was captured while on patrol and separated from unit of 36th during WWII. He was imprisoned at Stalag 5A, Malschbach, Ludwigsburg, Wuerttemberg 49-09. He was interned in four German prisons, including a concentration camp.
Dixon, William, a private in Co. A of the 86th IL Infantry he was taken prisoner by guerillas and then paroled near Nashville, TN Nov 7 1862.
Downe, Nathaniel Holmes, taken prisoner by British while he was serving on the privateer Protecter. Taken 1st to Jersey prison ship, then England where he escaped & then recaptured and sent to Mill prison. Eventually returned as part of a prisoner exchange.

Duckett, Elijah, a Confederate soldier of 9th Arkansas Infantry wounded and captured in 1862/63 during the Civil War. He was paroled May 16 1863.
Dunbar, Thomas, a sergeant in Capt. William Todd's Co, Col Thomas Craft's Artillery Regiment in Boston during the Revoutionary War. In 1778, he appeared on a list of prisoners sent from Newport, RI in the prison ship Lord Sandwich which landed at Bristol March 7 1778.
Dustin/Duston, Hannah (Emerson), was captured by Indians 15 Mar 1697 during King William's War.
Elsea, Robert Thomas, a Confederate private in Co. E, Mosby's Battalion when he was captured at Clark Co, VA on 29 Nov 1864. Sent to the Old Capitol Prison at Washington, DC on 8 Dec 1864 then to Ft. Warren in Boston Harbor on 6 Feb 1865 and kept there until he was released on 13 Jun 1865.

Feagle, George, a confederate soldier in the Civil War, a member of Co I 15th Regiment SC. He was captured at Gettysburg 2 Jul 1863. On 20 Aug 1863 he was sent from Baltimore, MD to Point Lookout, MD where on 27 Jul 1864 he died from pneumonia.
Fenner, Jr., Daniel, who was wounded and captured at the Battle of Springfield, NJ during the Revolutionary War - June 23, 1780.

Goldwaithe, Jesse, a Union private in Co B 100th NY Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. He was captured after the Battle of Drury's Bluff in Chesterfield Co, VA on 15 Sep 1864. He was imprisoned at Libby Prison, Richmond, VA and then Andersonville Prison, GA.
Goodson, Andrew Jackson, a Confederate soldier taken captive at Battle of Kennesaw Mt., near Marietta, GA during the Civil War. Taken to Nashville, then Louisville and finally to Camp Douglas in Chicago. Detained under terrible conditions & treatment for 8 months and then offered release if he would join the Union Army, which he did.

Graves, Joshua, who was captured by the Indians in Salisbury, VT and taken to Ticonderoga.
Green, Curtis, who was captured at Danville, KY during the Civil War, sent to Louisville, KY for exchange and forwarded to Vicksburg, MS. He was captured again near Rome, GA and charged with spying. He escaped, returning to his Unit.
Greene, Howell H., who was captured at South Side during the Civil War, VA confined at Hart’s Island, and released on 19 Jun 1865 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
Greene, James L., who was captured near Spotsylvania Court House during the Civil War, confined at Point Lookout, transferred to Elmira, NY where he died.
Hale, Nathan, was captured as a Spy during the Revolutionary War and hanged.
Hames, Lemuel Baxter, who was captured at Weldon R. R. during the Civil War and received from City Point at Point Lookout. He died at Point Lookout and was buried as #1404 POW in the POW Graveyard.

Hare, Loren Harrison, captured at Chickamauga, GA during the Civil War, he was imprisoned in Libby and Roster House in Richmond, VA. He escaped from Florence, SC, recaptured at Wadesboro, NC and returned to Florence, SC. Paroled and honorably discharged 14 Apr 1865.
Head, Henry, NY, Captured near Petersburg, POW at Belle Isle in Richmond during the Civil War.
Hensley, Aaron, a Confederate soldier medically discharged by the Confederate Army on 19 Aug 1863 and then taken by Union soldiers in Roane Co WV. He was kept at Camp Chase, OH until after Lincoln's assassination.
(Herbert) Moore, Ann, was captured by the French during French and Indian War.
Hightower, Paschal H., a Confederate private and member of Co. E, 30th Regiment GA Infantry during the Civil War. He was reported as captured in May, 1862. On 10 Jan 1865 he was admitted to the US hospital at Hilton Head, SC and died there 20 Feb 1865. He is buried at the Beaufort, SC National Cemetery.
Hochstetler, Jacob, whose home was attacked by 8-10 Indians. His home was set on fire killing his wife and two children. Jacob and two other children were taken as prisoners during the French and Indian War.
Hoke, Henry, a Union soldier and member of Co E, 5th Indiana Cavalry Volunteers as a farrier. He was captured with others of his ompany, including his brother John, on 1 Aug 1864 near Hillsboro, GA. He was imprisoned at Andersonville Prison in GA.
Holliday, Hiram Adolphus, captured by Confederate troops during the Civil War. He died as a POW at Camp Oglethorp in Macon, GA.

Howell, Jr., Joseph, participated in the Battle of Long Island on 27 Aug 1776 during the Revolutionary War. He was wounded, taken prisoner, and incarcerated on the prison ship Jersey. He was released in December of 1776 upon a prisoner exchange for Capt. Livingston of the British Army.
Hughes, Anderson (Andrew) C., who was captured at Athens, MO. He was transferred to Rock Island Prison Camp in Rock Island, IL.
Hutchins, Jonathan, who was taken prisoner by Indians in 1698 at age 14 at Spruce Creek, near Oyster River Plantation at Kittery, York Co, ME. His father had been killed by the Indians who took Jonathan along with his mother and 3 brothers to Canada. They did not return to Kittery until 1705.
Hutchison, Capt. Edward, who was captured by an Indian while marching to a meeting with the Indians during the King Philip's War.
Irish, William, a Vermont Loyalist, he joined British forces for the Battle of Bennington and then went to Canada to join a British regiment during the Revolutionary War. In December 1780, while serving at Ft Ticonderoga, he attempted to visit his family in VT. He was captured and held for seven months in Bennington.
Irwin, William David, who was captured by Confederates at Memphis, TN in August, 1864 during the Civil War. He was imprisoned at both Andersonville and Cahaba prisons.
Jacks, William Parks, was captured during the Civil War and was a POW in three different prisons.

Johnson, Cornelius V., who was captured by the Confederates near Columbia, SC during the Civil War.
Johnson, James, who was a frontiersman in Ohio in the late 1700s when he was captured and imprisoned by Indians during the Frontier Indian Wars. He was released in accordance with the treaty signed after the victory of General Mad Anthony Wayne at Fallen Timbers in 1795.
Johnson, Josiah Joseph, was captured and imprisoned at Vicksburg MS.

Keener, Jesse P., who was captured at Corinth during the Civil War. He was transported to Rock Island Prison Camp in Rock Island, IL, where he died in captivity.
Kennedy, John, a soldier during the Revolutionary War who volunteered for the Bedford Co., VA militia and fought at Cowpens, SC. He was captured and taken prisoner at the Battle of Guilford Court House, NC on March 15, 1781. Imprisoned on the British ship Jersey off the Virginia Capes, he died of starvation.

Knight, Calvin James, a Confederate soldier and member of Co I, 13th GA Regiment when captured in Knoxville by Sherman's forces 28 Oct 1864. He was transferred from the military prison in Louisville, KY to Camp Douglas, IL where he died 26 Jan 1865.
Kolyer, Andrew Jackson, a scouting party left Piedmont Station to gather hay for horses. Attacked by the Confederates during the Civil War, he was taken captive. The Rebels, and captives, were then attacked by Union soldiers. The rebels retreated but not before they shot and killed the wounded captives, including Andrew Jackson Kolyer.

Langley, James Wyeth, a Confederate soldier during the Civil War and private in Company B of the 56th GA Infantry. He was captured near Chattahoochee, GA in Jul 1864 and died in captivity at Camp Douglas IL on 30 Dec 1864.

Leonard, Martha, who was taken captive along with her three daughters. They were marched to Canada. Benjamin Waite and Stephen Jennings mounted a rescue party, located the captives where Martha had delivered a baby girl, who she named Canada.
Lewis, Anderson, a Confederate soldier during the Civil War and member of Company B of the 55th AL Volunteers. He was captured near Gaylesville, Cherokee Co, AL in Oct 1864 while home on furlough. He was transported to Camp Douglas in Chicago where he remained until his release on 17 Jun 1865.

Loomis, George, Privateer, a sailor during the Revolutionary War serving on the Brig Industry which was on the way to Spain when he was captured off the coast of Portugal and taken to Lisbon. Refusing to serve on a British ship, he was taken to Mill Prison, in England. He was released on a prisoner exchange and sent to Boston.
Lothropp/Lothrop, John, who was imprisoned for his religious beliefs which were against the King of England.
McComb, William, Captured at the Battle of Fort Washington during the Revolutionary War and held prisoner on the British prison ship, Jersey.
McFadden, Harlan Wayne, who was captured during WWII, placed in the Hoten POW Campin Manchuria where he remained for the duration of the war.
McFall, Joseph, at 11 years of age, he was among those captured by the British & Indians at Ruddles Station in what is now Kentucky in 1780 during the Revolutionary War. The captives were taken to Canada. He was back in Kentucky and reunited with his family by 1783.
McGriff, Thomas, who was captured as a boy in 1774 by a party of Shawnees while playing along the New River on the western frontier of Virginia during the Indian Wars.
McKenzie, David C., at the Battle of Arkansas Post during the Civil War, the unit was captured. After being exchanged, the 10th Texas was consolidated with two other regiments.

Manheim, Bernhardt, who was captured in action during the Siege of Petersburg, VA. He was sent to Camp Sumter, Andersonville. He was released through a prisoner exchange.

Millett, Thomas, a mariner during the Revolutionary War on the ship Hancock when it was captured in 1777 by the British ship Rainbow off Halifax, NS. He escaped on 25 Dec 1777 but was captured againin May 1778 while onboard a Dutch schooner. He was taken to New York where he remained a prisoner until exchanged in September 1778.
Mills, Walter Cole, who was captured near Petersburg, VA during the Civil War. He was moved to Point Lookout. He swore an Oath of Allegiance, allowing his release, on 15 Jun 1865.

Moran, Christopher, an Union soldier was traveling with his unit on a train that stopped in Colliersville, TN during the Civil War. A confederate force attacked the train and Christopher was taken prisoner and sent to Belle Isle, VA. In captivity from Oct 11, 1863 until Mar 7 1864.
Moreau, Lucien Ferrier, a Confederate soldier imprisoned after the surrender of CSA forces at the siege of Port Hudson in 1863 during the Civil War. Later paroled and then transferred to a parole camp in Alexandria, LA until exchanged.
Morefield, Josiah James, A Union soldier during the Civil War he was a sergeant in Co G, 111th IL Volunteer Infantry. He took part in the capture of Vicksburg and then on the march on Atlanta where he himself was captured 21 Jul 1864 and imprisoned at Andersonville Prison. He was one of only 32 prisoners to successfully escape Andersonville, reporting back to Union lines on 24 Sep 1864.

Mullan, Edwin Charles, a Union soldier captured during the Battle of Fredricksburg during the Civil War.
Munger, William Henry, a soldier during the Revolutionary War who was captured in the raid on Ruddles Station, KY June 1780. The raid was led by Henry Bird, Simon Girty and about 600 Indians. The prisoners, including William and his sons were marched to Detroit, Quebec where William died.

Hutchins, Jonathan, who was taken prisoner by Indians in 1698 at age 14 at Spruce Creek, near Oyster River Plantation at Kittery, York Co, ME. His father had been killed by the Indians who took Jonathan along with his mother and 3 brothers to Canada. They did not return to Kittery until 1705.

Irish, William, a Vermont Loyalist, he joined British forces for the Battle of Bennington and then went to Canada to join a British regiment during the Revolutionary War. In December 1780, while serving at Ft Ticonderoga, he attempted to visit his family in VT. He was captured and held for seven months in Bennington.

He took part in the capture of Vicksburg and then on the march on Atlanta where he himself was captured 21 Jul 1864 and imprisoned at Andersonville Prison. He was one of only 32 prisoners to successfully escape Andersonville, reporting back to Union lines on 24 Sep 1864.

Owsley, Thomas, a colonial Virginian, he was involved in a trading venture based in England. After purchasing indentured servants there for trading, he was captured by Barbary pirates and ransomed by the Anglican congregation of his father, rector of the Church in Stogursey, Somersetshire.

Walgamotte, Thomas L., a Confederate soldier during the Civil War he was captured at the Battle of Gettysburg 3 Jul 1863. He was was held prisoner at Fort Delaware until 21 Jan 1865 when he took the Oath of Allegiance. He then rejoined the 5th LA Infantry and was present at the surrender at Appomatox in April, 1865.
Walk, Martin, a Moravian living in Friedberg, NC during the Revolutionary War, he was one of several persons arrested by the British in Feb 1781 as "enemies of the country". He escaped and returned to his home.

Wilkins, John T., a Confederate soldier during the Civil War captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864. He was sent to Point Lookout, MD 18 May 1864 and moved to Elmira,NY 2 Aug 1864. He was exchanged on the James River on 20 Feb 1865.

Williamson, Brig. Gen. Andrew, a double agent during the Revolutionary War, he surrendered to the British, seeking their protection, in order to gain vital intelligence, which he supplied to the patriots.
Willson, David Blackwood, a Confederate soldier during the Civil War. Surrendered & then paroled at Beverly, WV; Captured at Rich Mountain; Captured at Spotsylvania Court House then sent to Belle Plain then Point Lookout where he was imprisoned. Transferred to and imprisoned at Elmira; Paroled; Transferred to James River for exchange.
Wynn, Jr., Maurice Byron, a B-25 tail gunner assigned to rhe 488th Bomb Squdron during WWII. When his plane was shot down over Ferrara, Italy he bailed out and was captured by the Italians. Held first in Stalag Luft II and later moved to Stalag VIIA in Moosburg, Germany. Liberated 29 Apr 1945 by the US Army 47th Tank Battalion.
